The atmosphere of total Krishna consciousness, during her childhood, moulded her path of life towards a life of devotion and she started treating Lord Krishna as her husband. She was taught music, scriptures, archery, music, driving chariots, and horse riding. Mira was nurtured by her grandfather in her childhood and was trained to wield weapons. She was married to Bhoj Raj, the prince of Mewar, in 1516 who died in 1521 during the ongoing wars with the Delhi Sultanate. Ratan Singh was her father, who was the son of Rao Duda Ji, a descendant of the founder of Jodhpur, Rao Jodha Ji Rathore. Merta, at that time, was ruled by Rathors, the great devotees of Lord Vishnu. Mirabai was a Rajput princess born in 1504 AD at Chaukhari Village, Merta district, Rajasthan. She is cherished as a Bhakti Saint in the Hindu tradition of North India as mentioned in Bhaktamal, a poem in Braj language, which was written in 1585 by Nabha Dass (a saint who belonged to the Ramananda tradition). She was a Hindu mystic poetess of the 16th century and an exponent of the Divine Love or Prema Bhakti.
